Dates from Hell - Various

Rating : 3.5/5
Number of Pages : 404
Reason for Reading : Short Story Reading Challenge

A collection of 4 short stories (novella's really as they are all just over 100 pages long) by some of today's most popular paranormal romance and urban fasntasy authors.

Undead in the Garden of Good and Evil - Kim Harrison
This story started off quite confusing as it mixed alive and undead vampires with a confusing mythology that wasn't very well explained. It became a sexy murder mystery tale centred around alive vampire Ivy Tamnwood. To get ahead it looks like she will have to whore herself to her undead vampire boss Art by lettinghim suck her blood. The murder comes in as they are working in the police force and theirpower games get all mixed in. Pretty average, I hope her series is better...

The Claire Switch Project - Lynsay Sands
A fun and sexy tale about scientist Claire who gets hit with a destabiliser ray giving her the power to shapeshift. She uses photos to emulate the shape, clothes and looks of other men and women. It gets more complicated when she finally gets a first date to their high school reunion with long standing crush Karl, but promises his twin sister she will shift into a famous movie star and be her date too! A quick and fun read.

Chaotic - Kelley Armstrong
Half-demon Hope has inherited her father's love of chaos. She works as a journalist covering paranormal stories as well as working as an Agent for the Interracial Council on the side. At least that is what Tristin Robard has told her. Everything falls apart when she meets sexy werewolf Karl Marsten who brings together chaos, desire and the truth in an explosive adventure at a museum gala dinner.
Dead Man Dating - Lori Handeland
Kit goes on a date with a guy she has met over the internet. Things go very wekk until they stop to have sex in an alley, which is very unlike her as she is a virgin waiting until she is married or meets her true love. A strange man calling himself Chavez turns up and shoots her date who leaves no blood or body behind. He claimes to be a rogue demon hunter and here Kit's adventures really begin...

I really liked the Kelley Armstrong story and I am looking forward to reading Personal Demon which has more on Hope. The tales by Lori Handeland and Lynsay Sands were also a lot of fun. The only disappointment was Kim Harrison, but I am planning on reading more by her and not judging her only on this short tale.

I really liked Dates from Hell. Sorry you were confused about Kim Harrison's story. She's notorious for not explaining everything. You have to read her series in order or you will NOT understand what's going on. I read her third book on accident and hated it, then a year or so later re-read it in order and loved it lol.

I really need to read Personal Demon. I've read all the other ones in her series but not that one yet and the next book comes out soon!

I read this anthology not too long ago. I found the Kim Harrison book hard to get into to, mainly because I hadn't read anything else by her.

The Sands was trying to hard to be funny, and I did like the Handeland book.

The reason I read it was for the Kelley Armstrong novella and it was certainly worth reading!

Great review! I had picked up this book specifically for the Kim Harrison short. It makes much more sense if you have read the others in her series.
After reading your review I'm going to go back and read the other stories also :)

This one sounds like fun. I just finished the anthology On the Prowl, and it was the same sort of thing, a few novellas by some authors I love and others I hadn't read. It's a fun way to get a fix of a favorite author while trying out some new ones. I'll add this to the list. Thanks!

I read this anthology some time ago and quite enjoyed it. I've to say Kelley Armstrong's story stands out from the others... and I haven't started Personal Demon yet!

Ladytink - I will add a link to your review soon, still trying to catch up on everything I have missed whilst away again. I will make sure I read her series in order, thanks for the tip.

Marg - I got it because of kelley's story. It was a good introduction to Lori and Lynsay though too. Will have to persevere with Kim I think.

Joanne - I will defintely give Kim another go and try to read her series in order! I hope you do read the other stories and enjoy them as much as I did.

Darla - I hope to read On the Prowl soon. I love Patricia Briggs and aim to read the collection before reading Cry Wolf. I hope you do get this collection, it's definitely worth a look.

Melody - Glad you enjoyed it. I have just got the paperback of Personal Demon and it is near the top of my list once I finish m challenge reading for the year.
